BACKGROUND INFO: 170-BPM Amazing pop-rock hit-single. We picked the pressing from the album Titan, since the 7-inch sounded awful (played too often for twenty years in a row). There's no record that sounds like this baby, and on the sleeve it says The sound of the tulip. A flat spectrum up to 23 kilohertz, too much high frequencies for this vinyl to handle. Violin arrangements by Hans Hollestelle. Engineers: Sander Bos (yes, SB from SBBL) and Sietse Gardenier. Recorded partly in Weesp, Holland at Cat Music and Dureco, partly in CTS studio, Wembley (UK). Europe clearly stole their sound from this dutch band. The dutch (Leiden, ZH) group Tower was founded in 1976 by Henk van Loon, Bob Poncin, Roy Poncin and Hans Prins. In 1980, the group changed some, featuring Henk van Loon, Ben Petersen, Tone Hoogeboom but most noticeably the vocalists Marianne Pijnacker and Cor v/d Hoogt. After the second hit-single "Going Home", the group split up in 1986. Marianne and Cor enjoyed some success with their next project, Split Decision. Their single "Action" was written and produced by FWO's Robert Pot. All Tower and Split Decision records were released by Dureco. Tower was among the first dutch bands to use a vocoder. BACKGROUND INFO: Around 120 BPM, but the track is drummed live, not sequensed; Very cool special kind of DISCO. Great electric piano-jamming. Has obviously been cut by ¼-inch tape-slicing, you can hear them all 'flip' by. Nonetheless a great recording, good vinyl quality, exceptional and interesting sound on the bass-drum as well as on the vocals. Full of disco-effects too. You probably remember it, but it has never been a big hit, which is weird. If you don't know this track, shame on you, you should not miss this one in your lifetime. Top-voted track on this page off and on througout the year 2000.. | |||||
